Cherries from our Orchard

We planted our first cherry orchard in 2010 inside our new polytunnel. Our first tiny crop was in summer 2011. We had a slightly larger crop, though still modest, in 2012, but we hope to have cherries in abundance in June 2013. Cherries are one of the earliest fruits of the season, and are available from June until July normally.

Sweet glossy dark cherries are a true temptation.  The birds seem to know that best, and if they are given half a chance they strip the trees of their fruit in no time at all.  In order for us to allow the cherries to reach full ripeness and let our customers enjoy them instead of the blackbirds, we have to totally bird-proof our polytunnel, with netting over all vents and doors!
